MAKE A BOOKING

** The garden gates open at 8am. If you are early, consider a quick wander through the Australian Rainforest Gardens at the entrance, which highlights trees used by our First Nations people, but please make sure you're back to the meeting spot in time or let your hosts know where you are.

Your hosts, Kat & Caron are taking you to our amazing, and often overlooked, Mt Coot-tha Botanic Gardens. Our journey today starts and finishes at the lookout within the gardens.

The first area we are heading to is the Australian Plant Communities - this trail takes you through planting communities of tropical and subtropical rainforests, open eucalypt forest, heathland and wetlands found in the eastern part of Australia. It is a beautifully shaded path that takes you around the Hidden Lake, home to water dragons and water birds.

After this we will make our way through the Australian Flower Garden - one of the best sections of the Brisbane Botanic Gardens - to the National Freedom Wall via Eucalyptus and Acacia Forest. The National Australia Remembers Freedom Wall is a symbol of 50 years of freedom and a space for quiet contemplation and reflection on the spirit of freedom. The wall honours servicemen and women who gave their lives in all wars for this nation and also honours those involved in bringing freedom to Australia, including those who worked on the land, in protected industries and organisations such as the Red Cross.

We then meander, the long way, to the impressive Japanese Garden, a wonderful sanctuary, nestled quietly within the gardens. Originally on display in the Japanese Pavilion at Expo 88 at South Bank, the garden was gifted to Brisbane and relocated to where it is now.

Morning tea is waiting for us back up the lookout, just beyond the Children's Hide & Seek trail and the African Region Plants. This occasion calls for cake! grin
