We welcome you to experience one of our self guided hiking packages developed for solo Adventurous Women ® â„¢ travellers who have the confidence to hike without the services of a guide or tour escort, but would really like to share their experience with like-minded women.

After firstly meeting your fellow Adventurous Women ® â„¢ travellers at our accommodation in Nelson, walk to a nearby restaurant and enjoy your first group dinner together.  The following four days will be spent walking the entire Abel Tasman Track (60kms), including the stunning path less travelled from Totaranui to Wainui Inlet.  With the comfort of only carrying a day pack and the ability to walk at your own pace, you'll be able to enjoy the hiking experience and really immerse yourself in the beauty of this region, with it's glittering golden sand beaches, intensely beautiful forests full of New Zealand native wildlife, crystal clear turquoise waters and spectacular ocean views.

Adventurous Women ® â„¢ are offering 10 lucky ladies the opportunity to join together and support one another while experiencing one of New Zealand's most relaxed Great Walks!

Itinerary

Today the excitement begins .... you'll all be arriving into Nelson from a variety of destinations at different times throughout the day. Make your way to our our accommodation, report to Reception for check-in and let them know that you're travelling as part of our Adventurous Women â„¢ Group. We have allocated the rooms and you'll therefore meet your room buddy for tonight at some stage during the day depending upon their arrival time.

If you've given yourself enough time to explore Nelson, one of the first things you should do, is take a walk to "The Centre of New Zealand - a must do". The fact that it’s the “Centre of New Zealand” is not the most exciting aspect. However, the views from there make it definitely worth a visit! It’s a great place to get some perspective of Nelson City and the surrounding region. The walk is steep but only takes around 15 minutes to complete. If this is not for you ... then perhaps take a visit to some of Nelson's many art galleries.

The group will meet as a whole in the evening at 6.00pm in the foyer and after intro's, will walk together to a nearby restaurant and enjoy your first meal together.

Meals: None included

Accommodation: Motel Accommodation (Twin Share) Nelson

Thismorning you will be picked up from the group accommodation in Nelson at approx. 7.15am and transferred by road to Marahau, arriving at the AquaTaxi base there at 8.30am. You'll all be met here by our representative in NZ who'll help you check-in bags for luggage transfers, hand out your lunch and provide you with a full briefing of the walk before you head off. There is a great café right at the start of the track – perfect for a coffee and late breakfast if required.

Spend the day hiking/swimming/exploring the forest, the track and the golden sand beaches en route to Anchorage.

On your arrival into Anchorage you're in for a 'glamping experience' .....you'll be shown to your deluxe tent by our camp guide who will be looking after you and preparing your meals. You'll be sleeping in luxury on air mattresses with a duvet and pillows. The camp doesn't have hot showers, just a cold water outside shower, but the location will take your mind of that, as the location is simply stunning!!

Hiking Distance Approx. 4 hours – 12.4kms

Meals: Lunch, Dinner

Today, you begin walking along the wonderful beach at Anchorage, passing civilised Torrent Bay before heading up and over to the iconic Falls River Swing Bridge and further to Bark Bay. From this lovely bay the track heads up a large ascent before making your way back to sea level at Tonga Quarry then Onetahuti Beach. A lovely walk along crescent shaped Onetahuti Beach follows and then the last saddle sees you over to wonderful Awaroa Lodge where you'll be staying for the night. After a rejuvenating shower in your room you'll be ready to explore the dining options at the on-site restaurant here.

All of our guests have the option of halving the walking distance on this long day by catching a water taxi from the half-way point of Bark Bay to your accommodation for the night. The additional water taxi is $38 per person if you wish to take this option.

Hiking Distance Approx. 7.5 hours - 21.9kms / or 6.5hrs - 18.8kms with available tidal shortcut at Torrent Bay

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch

Accommodation: Awaroa Lodge

After breakfast, your walk begins with the wide tidal crossing about 20 minutes from Awaroa Lodge. Then it is into some wonderful podocarp forest before bursting out on the golden sand of Waiharakeke Bay and Goat Bay before the ascent over to the popular camping spot of Totaranui. At Totaranui enjoy one of our favourite short walks (the Pukatea loop track) before meeting our land shuttle to the highly-rated Ratanui Lodge. Enjoy time at Ratanui Lodge and maybe go for a stroll along the beach, or relax in the spa pool. Bicycles are also available to explore the area. For dinner we've included a gourmet 3 course meal for you here at Ratanui Lodge, as they do food & service wonderfully well!

Hiking Distance Approx. 3 hours - 8.1kms Plus additional loop track walk of 1 hour (optional)

Meals: Lunch, Dinner

Accommodation: Ratanui Lodge

After breakfast, a short shuttle to Wainui Carpark takes you to the last section of your walk. From Wainui you are on the less travelled section of the track. The views of Wainui Inlet as you climb up into the native forest are stunning. The route today takes you up and over to Whariwharangi, then you’ll have the option of walking the Separation Point Loop track (an extra hour) before heading on to Mutton Cove and Anapai Beach before arriving at Totaranui. Once at Totaranui the AquaTaxi will pick you up and return you past all those golden sand beaches to Marahau. Our land transport to Nelson departs conveniently from the AquaTaxi base dropping you in Nelson around 6pm.

No Princess Policy

Princess crossed out

The No Princess Policy for our Self Guided Group Packages is really just about considering the needs of others when travelling as part of a group. It's about being inclusive, patient, kind, tolerant and respectful of others... After-all, you've chosen to take part in a 'group' travel experience.

Also, unless you're travelling with a friend and wish to room with them the whole time, we mix things up whereby at each different place of accommodation, we room you with a different lady from the group. We find this is a perfect way to bond the group while alleviating any potential annoyances that may occur if sharing with the same person the whole time.

Our Self Guided Group Packages are designed to provide you with the best of both worlds - walk with a buddy, walk alone .... walk at your own pace, and then of an evening, get to know your new room mate, before joining with the rest of the ladies to share experiences of the day over a glass of wine (or soft) and a meal.

We recommend Travel Insurance to cover any unexpected events that may affect your trip.
