The Yonga Walk Trail leads you through many of the vegetation types found in Lesueur National Park and allows you to experience some of the best scenery the park has to offer. It's a 26km loop trail that takes you deep into the park through wandoo woodlands, valleys, breakaways and Kwongan Heath country. The trail is steep and rocky in places, however you are rewarded with stunning views that make navigating these parts, well worth the effort.
Itinerary in Brief
Day 1: Friday 2nd June
Self Drive from Perth to Karda Campground via Jurien Bay where your Adventurous Women Guide will greet you.
Set up camp and relax into the weekend.
Gather around the campfire for dinner, social time and a briefing about the arrangements for the following day.
This little known and fairly new campground is one of the most amazing locations to stargaze ... so take this special time to enjoy!
Day 2: Saturday 3rd June
Pack up camp at Karda, jump in your vehicles and follow your AW Guide to Lesueur National Park
Park your car overnight in the carpark adjacent to the Yonga Trail Head.
With your backpack loaded for an overnighter, head out on the Yonga Trail.
Hike 14km to the campsite and set up your tents on the raised platforms that we have booked for our group (no tents allowed to be pitched elsewhere, designated area allowable only). The platforms are not sheltered overhead and you cannot use pegs to secure, so rocks are generally used if you need to tie down. There is a rainwater tank here, however if there is water in there, it is untreated so please don't rely on this as a water source. You will need to bring plenty of water for two days of hiking and dinner/cuppa. There is a drop toilet facility at the campground.
Enjoy the camp experience ... once again under the stars!
Day 3: Sunday 4th June
Pack up camp at Yonga Campground, don the loaded backpacks once again and continue to finish out hiking the loop -12km being today's distance.
Reaching the trailhead .... if time & energy permits, there may be the opportunity to hike the moderately challenging Yued Ponar Trail (another 6km) with just a day pack. Your guide will advise if there is enough time in the day to safely tackle this, leaving your loaded backpacks in the vehicles. If time permits, those who have had enough hiking for one day can head back to Karda Campground for some chill time and those who wish to hike the Yued Ponar will be accompanied by our guide.
Late Afternoon - Regroup together at Karda Campground, for an evening celebrating our achievements around the campfire.
Sleeping Under the Stars.
Day 4: Monday 5th June
Rise and Shine to the freshness of country air!
Grab yourself a cuppa, relax and take in the serenity of this gorgeous camp while our guide cooks up some bacon & eggs for brekky.
After breakfast pack up, say our goodbyes and start the journey home.
