Join Caron and Kat on one of the favourite walks in Springbrook National Park, with its spectacular waterfalls and beautiful World Heritage-listed Gondwana rainforest, walking in this area is a privilege.
The trail passes by the top lookout for your first view of the drama of these 109-metre horsetail falls before entering through a forest of mountain ash and eucalyptus to the valley below. As you descend down the 265 steps to the base of the waterfall, you'll come to a more typical rainforest vegetation of palms, cycads and vine forest.
There are several vantage points to see the full length of the Purling Brook Falls from here, and it is worth waiting for the sun to come across the falls, forming rainbows in the spray mist that drifts across the green tropical plants clinging to the steep cliffs. The pool and vegetation surrounding it is home to some protected wildlife including native frogs and the spiny blue crayfish so swimming here is prohibited.
From here we will detour on the Warringa Pool track, this is one of the best swimming holes in the Springbrook National Park and swimming is permitted if you are game. We will enjoy a cuppa and some home baked treats here before heading back.
