Calling all night owls, if you ike to get outside after dark, this one is for you! Under the light of February's Full Moon, we enjoy hiking in nature, spotting wildlife and good company. A great way to get a nature fix and de-stress in preparation for the week ahead!
Our Full Moon Hike begins at 5pm where the AW guide will meet everyone at Perry's Paddock (Ocean Reef Road, Woodvale). After introductions, a car shuffle will commence whereby some vehicles will remain here and a few will be driven to the start point (Leapfrogs, Wanneroo). Your AW Guide will help to coordinate this.
Once the walk commences, there's a short section of footpath, before diverting into the natural oasis of Yellagonga Regional Park. Our walk hugs Lake Joondalup for most of the way, which is home to a great variety of birds and an abundance of wildlife. Keep your eyes peeled for wrens, waterfowl, freshwater turtles and native water rats. A boardwalk and observation tower make great viewing points and our guide will divert to these during the first half of the walk.
Approximately one hour into our walk, we stop at lovely Neil Hawkins Park where we enjoy a picnic dinner (byo), along with a cuppa & sweet treat provided by AW. There are toilet facilities here if required and fountains to refill water.
Once we're fed & waterered, we continue on.... passing by more wetland areas, turtle crossings, swamp paperbarks and lovely native bushland. This is such a beautiful place to immerse yourself in nature and mentally recharge.
After crossing through another sweet little park called Picnic Cove, we continue through more native bushland until we reach Perry's Paddock where we step back in time! This heritage listed site is such a great way to round out our Full Moon Hike.
