Leave your worries at the terminal and enjoy the short 10-minute ferry ride from Victoria Point over to beautiful Coochiemudlo Island, one of the Southern islands of Moreton Bay and only 35 km from Brisbane city. Coochiemudlo, or Kutchi-mudlo in the language of the Koobenpul people, means place of red stone. These prominent rocks have traditionally been used as a source of ochre for the local indigenous peoples of the area.
Affectionately dubbed ‘Coochie’ by locals, this tiny, sub-tropical island is predominantly residential but also has significant natural habitats and an abundance of wildlife. The island is easily navigated on foot and we will take a relaxed 5 km walk around the island exploring the diverse natural habitats of the mangroves, wetlands, bushland and the often-deserted beaches, and enjoy the amazing views out to Stradbroke island. Keep your eyes open for Sea Eagles, bush curlews, turtles, dugongs, dolphins and at the right time of year whales on their migration.
Caron and Kat will provide a treat for our half way stop, Morwong Beach, and you will have the opportunity to purchase a coffee at the Red Rock Café at the end of our adventure.
Don't forget to bring $10 cash for the return ferry ride and your swimmers if you are keen for a swim!
