Our "Day on Straddie" sold out in no time so we've added another, appropriately called "Another Day on Straddie"!
We'll start the day early catching the 7am car ferry from Cleveland across to North Stradbroke (Don't worry there's a café where you can buy coffee! ).
After arriving at Dunwich around 7.45am and getting organised we will kick off walking the 6km return Kaboora track to Kaboora Lake/Blue Lake via Tortoise Lagoon.
This easy walk passes through widely spaced woodlands with stunted eucalypts, banksia and heath due to the mostly infertile soil. The edges of the lake however are thickly vegetated making it a haven for many animals and birds including honeyeaters, lorikeets, grebes and ducks. We may even grab a glimpse of the rare golden wallaby unique to Peel and the Stradbroke islands.
Karboora is a place of significant cultural value to the Quandamooka people and they request that visitors respect that significance by not swimming in the lake.
After our walk we will enjoy morning tea then drive to Cylinder beach for a well earned cooling swim in some of the clearest water you will find, (Rated the best beach for swimming a couple of years ago) Beach showers are available to rinse off and change.
After our swim it's time for lunch at the Stradbroke Hotel (own expense) before we finish the day with a walk around North Gorge (approx. 1.3kms) looking for the migrating Humpback whales that frequently pass close by, and are often see resting just off the gorge. Bring your binoculars or zoom lens if you have them!
Apart from the whales we will see kangaroos, koalas (Our guides know a secret spot to find a family !) as well as sea life such as manta rays, turtles and dolphins if they're feeling friendly on the day.
Please note: This is a self drive event.
You will either need to drive and book the car barge or if travelling as a passenger in a shared vehicle you must be willing to compensate the driver for car barge fees and travel costs etc. The car barge with 4 or 5 passengers is $150 return (at time of writing)Participants can also meet on the day at Dunwich.
Notice of cancellation must be in writing, with an email as an acceptable form of communication, directly to Adventurous Women with the following conditions:
