After meeting at Jollys Lookout car park (Off Mt Nebo Road) we will walk the Thylogale Track in D'Aguilar National Park through to Boombana and return.
The walk is 4 kms one way and is rated easy, passing through beautiful rainforest into drier country as you pass around the mountain.
Quite a lot of birds have been seen recently including whip bird, wompoo fruit dove, Australian king parrot, Australian log runner, yellow tailed black cockatoo, green catbird, regent bowerbird and large billed scrub wren and more.
For those wondering about the track name, it comes from the genus of the Pademelon, a small marsupial found locally. The name is a corruption of badimaliyan, from the Dharuk Aboriginal language of Port Jackson (Sydney region).
Pademelons, wallabies, and kangaroos are very alike in body structure, and the three names refer to the three different size groups. Besides their smaller size, pademelons can be distinguished from wallabies by their shorter, thicker, and sparsely haired tails... Keep an eye out on the track and you may see a few
