Come and join your AW Hosts, Caron and Kat on this fantastic mountain walk.
Abundant bird life and ever-changing vegetation, including a sacred Gondwana Rainforest, will draw you into this adventure, making you wonder why you have never been here before.
We head straight to the top of Mt Mathieson from the Pioneers Graves car park area, capture this rather easy peak, then head along the saddle to a small climb around some impressive rock formations into the rainforest. You will enjoy vistas of Mt Mitchell, Mt Cordeaux, Lake Moogerah and the valley below.
The trail then opens into a grassy field taking us to the historic Heritage Trail, that gently meanders all the way to Governors Chair. The view from here is epic! Taking in Mt Maroon, Mt Greville, Mt Edwards - all the way across to the east Mt Barney can be visible if the day is crystal clear.
From here we make our way back down to the Pioneers Grave picnic area, stopping along the way to visit a natural spring, all part of the colourful history from the area. We finish where we started. The AW pantry will serve up some delicious morning tea, with a cuppa made fresh.
Please Note:
Some experience is recommended, however not a requirement. There is some rock scrambling where you will be required to use your hands. As always, we will be there to guide and assist you along the way with a helping hand and instructions on how best to navigate these sections.
Although the Qld Parks website states that this road is suitable for 2WD vehicles, it can become rough/corrugated after rain. If you wish to carpool, we will be leaving from Aratula on the Cunningham Highway (opposite the bakery) at 7:15am.
There are non-flushing bush toilets at the trailhead.
