Kat, Caron and Chris would like to extend a warm welcome to the new AW - QLD 2022 members. This adventure is just for you, our newest members, it’s time we got to know you all, so our adventure today is a social stroll, followed up with coffee, tea, snacks and conversation.
On the low tide we are venturing onto Moreton Bay. The low tide exposes a sand bridge between Wellington Point (Cullen Cullen) and King Island (Yerubin or Erobin)on the Redland Coast. This stunning causeway of golden sand is a popular place for locals and visitors alike. It is a surreal experience…. just like "Walking on Waterâ€
The tiny island is full of romantic charm and history. There are history boards on the island about the Philips family who lived on the island one hundred and ten years ago.
Birds also seek out the peace and isolation of King Island. Caspian terns, Red-capped plovers, Australian pied oystercatchers, Striated herons and Mangrove gerygones can be spotted all year round. These island natives are joined by many more migratory birds in summer.
The walk is very exposed so layer on the sunscreen, wear a long sleeve shirt and grab a big hat. No hiking boots required, just wear something suitable for firm sand walking.
Please note:
Toilet Facilities are available at the meeting place.
This can be a busy place so if you have a camping chair bring it along.
