An important skill for any regular paddler is the ability to negotiate fast flowing water or rapids. On this event we will first receive a full safety briefing and instruction as well as being fitted with a PFD and paddles to suit before we hit the river. Then for approximately 1.5km we will do a basic skills refresher and become comfortable in the canoes before we reach our first area of moving water.
The group will then go down a series of approximately 6 rapids as well as a gliding though a couple of gently flowing pools where the birdlife is amazing and we have time to lookout for feeding Kingfishers, turtles sunning on logs, eagles scouting for food and lung fish coming up for a breath. These animals are often seen in these areas but platypus are also becoming more common.
We finish up approximately 8km from our starting point and participants and canoes will be shuttled back to our starting point to enjoy morning tea and a wander around the farm.
After your morning why not visit nearby Lowood, Fernvale or Wivenhoe while you're in the area before heading home.
