The Ewen Maddock Dam is located 5kms north of Landsborough. It is an earth-fill embankment dam with an un-gated spillway. The main purpose for this dam is for portable water supply of the Sunshine Coast. The dam is regularly stocked with Australian bass, golden perch, Mary River Cod & Saratoga, so is popular with local anglers.
Today is a pleasant walk starting from the park at the designated swimming area and follows the shoreline through a scenic landscape. The walk is suitable for all levels of walkers and is relatively flat winding its way around the dam. There are boardwalks, sealed and unsealed walkways to navigate with plenty of photo opportunities, including the Glasshouse Mountains, waterlilies and other aquatic plants.
The Ornamental Wetlands found on the southern end of the lake provide an opportunity to better understand the important role wetlands play in our water catchment areas.
We will take our time and venture along the trail for about 6 kms and return the same way. Back at our starting point we will enjoy a cuppa, and something made fresh from the AW Pantry.
This is a relatively easy walk and suitable for walkers of all ages. The Grade 3 rating is based on the 12km distance. A good level of fitness is ideal when taking on these slightly longer walks.
Please note: There are toilet facilities at the trailhead.
