The circuit starts at the Binna Burra Mountain Lodge Cafe and follows the border track for 2.3kms, before branching on the Daves Creek circuit track.
This well marked track passes through a variety of vegetation, including subtropical rainforest, warm temperate forest and scrubby bushland on some of the more exposed sections. The trail descends through the head of Woggunba Valley out into Daves Creek country.
We will take in magnificent views of Springbrook, Mount Hobwee, the Araucaria lookout and Numinbah Valley from Numinbah lookout. We will ensure we stop and enjoy the cool surrounds of Picnic Creek. There are creek crossings, waterfalls and the highlight is having lunch on a rocky ridge at Surprise Rock - a volcanic dyke made of hard trachyte, which has been able to withstand erosion and sits proudly over the valley.
This park is part of the Gondwana Rainforests of Australia World Heritage Area, famed for its ongoing geological processes, evolutionary history and diversity, especially of rare, threatened and endemic species. The Lamington Spiny Crayfish is one such species. These blue freshwater crayfish can be found in many of the creeks and are a delight to encounter.
This is a relatively easy walk gaining it's Grade 4 rating due to the duration of time (4 hours+) on the trail. It is 11-12kms so a good level of fitness is ideal, however if you are venturing out into slightly longer walks then this one is a great start.
Please note: There are toilet facilities at the trail head
