On this no fuss, no frills expedition, we have an experienced guide & our Adventurous Women ® ™ host accompany you throughout, providing you with plenty of support along the way. The trip is suitable for first timers, or those with experience, however an adventurous spirit is required as the camping experience itself is basic, and designed to provide you with a real sense of being in nature!
The paddling and camping is mostly within the Ral Ral section of the Murray River National Park.
● Featuring creeks that offer some of the most interesting paddling in South Australia, with abundant birdlife.
● Ancient Redgums around every bend in an area that was frequented by Aborigines for millennia.
● Paddling past the remains of a WW2 internment camp, where wood was cut to power steam pumps for the Riverland irrigation area.
● Overnight at campsites that seem a million miles from anyone else
● Opportunities for a night walk at each campsite with powerful head torches.
● Opportunity for a Twilight Paddle to spot wildlife
Meet with your Adventurous Women ™ Host Leonie at 8.00am for the drive in convoy to Berri (We can assist with Car-Pooling if you'd like this option - If so, please let us know if you'd like to drive or be passenger and contribute towards fuel costs and we will coordinate vehicles)
On your arrival in Berri, you'll park your vehicles in a designated parking area and be met by the lead guide who will be driving a bus with all the kayaks/equipment. You'll then be transported by bus to the launch area near the Wilkadene Brewery, where the gear will be distributed among all the kayaks, a briefing will be held and you'll then begin your first paddle.
Launching into the oxbow lake that Wilkadene is situated on, is an old river course that became a quiet backwater when the Murray changed course. We then begin paddling through narrow winding creeks with fascinating names - Amazon Creek, Little Hunchee Creek and Native Box Creek and finish the day out by setting up camp on Calperum Station (owned by the Australian Landscape Trust, it covers one third of the internationally recognised Ramsar site of the Riverland biosphere).
Approx Paddling Distance: 7kms
Meals: None included
Setting off in the morning we wind our way through Ral Ral and Nelbuck Creeks taking in all that this lovely paddling section has to offer. At the end of the day we pull up and camp on a sandy riverbed along the Murray River.
After dinner there is an opportunity for a twilight paddle.
Approx Paddling Distance: 18kms

On our last day, we will complete the one-way journey to Renmark via beautiful Bulyong Creek.
Your AW Host Leonie will be returning to Adelaide in the afternoon and welcomes you to join her in the convoy back... or you may just choose to spend the evening in Berri to finish out your little break away! We anticipate that the arrival back into Adelaide will be between 5 & 6pm.

You need to be able to adopt a "Go With The Flow" attitude, a willingness to have a go, work as a team .... and to be 'ok' with bush camping (no showers, drop toilets or at times, no toilets)
