Come join us as we explore one of the best-kept secrets in Perth - the serene yet stunning Chittering Valley. At just 45 minutes from the city, you'll feel like you've travelled to a whole new world!
We'll meet at the Golden Grove Cafe at 9:30 for a casual coffee (own expense) before heading out through the picturesque citrus orchard, perhaps picking a juicy mandarin to enjoy along the way. From there it's a lovely walk up to Avon Valley National Park taking time to turn around and marvel at the stunning views of the valley. We'll enjoy the towering grass trees, wandoo, powder barks and ancient zamias to the sounds of the abundant birdlife. Once in the park you'll hear stories of a legendary bushranger who called this area home in the mid 1800's and was more famous for his cunning escapes from jail than the petty crimes that landed him there! Of course we're referring to Moondyne Joe.
After completing the 6.5km circuit we'll descend back through the orchard before taking a short drive (in convoy) to Blackboy Ridge, where we'll walk up to the lookout to enjoy our picnic lunch (byo), enjoying sensational views of the valley from the other side. We'll explore the undulating ridge as we circle back around to our cars, a total distance of 3.5km.
This is definitely "the road less travelled" and it's right on our doorstep! If you have walking poles you might like give them a bit of a workout on this one as some of the slopes can be challenging.
