Grab your comfy walking shoes girls and join some AWesome Women on an easy guided 7.5km stroll along a Heritage Trail through stunning urban bushland and out to our magnificent coastline, visiting some treasures along the way!
Star Swamp Reserve is a declared Bush Forever site that has been set aside for the purposes of conservation, passive recreation and education, since the mid 19th century. It provides a breeding site and sanctuary for both waterbirds and other bushland bird species with over 65 species having been recorded. The bushland is also an important habitat for species of reptiles, insects, and spiders. While you stroll through the bush keep a look out for black cockatoos and fairy wrens as well as quendas that can often be seen eating beside the track.
Your AW guide will give you an insight on the history of the area and how the swamp was part of the Coastal Stock Route in the early 20th century. We will then leave the bush and walk to one of the best viewing points on the coast, just a stone’s throw from the ocean. Climb the stairs to breathtaking panoramic views along the northern coastline, South to Fremantle, out to Rottnest Island and inland towards the city… a little known place that only the locals seem to know. We will then head along the coastal path taking in the views of the beaches and beautiful ocean.
On our return to the start, join your AW host for a coffee if you wish, overlooking the stunning Indian Ocean. There are toilets at the start and finish at North Beach shopping centre. Lots of parking in the shopping Centre. Meet in front of North Beach Fish and Chips on corner of West Coast Drive and North Beach Road.
