Our Swan River Paddle begins where the river starts to flow & navigation at the beginning is tricky, making it suitable for those looking for ADVENTURE that's why it's aptly named "Adventurous Spirit"!!
Taking part in this section is not so much about being an experienced paddler, nor one's ability to even have paddled before. It's more about having the willingness and being fit enough to haul, wade and maneuver the kayaks (helping one another as Adventurous Women do) through waterways at the beginning, which can be a bit tricky to navigate due to obstacles and water levels.
The start of our journey is near All Saints, the oldest church in WA. It was built to mark the highest point that Stirling's boat reached in 1827. Where we start our paddle is just a little further up the river on the other side and that's where the fun begins! As a group, you will be maneuvering the kayaks to an area at the end of some tee trees ... The adventurous part! From there you'll be paddling a section of the swan river where most have not paddled before and you probably won't see anyone else, other than the girls in your group until you get closer to Middle Swan. This section is Swan Valley proper where vineyards and eateries line the banks of the river, old vines, tons of history and many places of interest.
We will have a couple of stops and enjoy a picnic lunch under the shade of some trees along the way so you'll be able to rest at certain intervals throughout the day.
The distance of the Paddle is 11km and should be achievable for anyone with a reasonable level of fitness. No prior kayaking experience is required, however you need to be willing to pitch in and help your fellow paddlers if required.

By paddling this part of the Swan River you are starting where the river actually begins to flow (A moment in history - Stirling had to stop here back in 1827 due to un-navigable waters). You may choose to just take part in this ONE section only, OR you may choose to continue the following month and complete the next section on the river, starting off where we finish (as we're doing a different section each month until we reach Coode Street in South Perth). You may even keep going each month to complete all five sections, the choice is yours .. there's no pressure (just good times) and there are a good range of paddling experiences to be enjoyed, either as a one off or more than one if you wish.
If you really want to complete the whole sectional paddle over the 5 months, but some of the dates don't suit or you're not able to commit right now, then let us know by emailing sue@adventurouswomen.com.au. We will then place your name on a list to be notified when we next run that section so you'll have first dibs prior to it's release to the general public.
