Re-energise your spirit with Caron and Kat as you inhale the scent of eucalyptus and immerse yourself in the dappled light of the cooling rainforest of the D'Aguilar Ranges, at the back of Brisbane.
After meeting at Jollys Lookout car park we will walk the Thylogale Track in D'Aguilar National Park through to Boombana, continue along the Pitta Circuit track, and return. The walk is 9 kms return and is rated easy, passing through beautiful rainforest into open eucalypt forest as you pass around the mountain.
Feel the temperature drop as you enter under its canopy of huge strangler figs, hoop pines, lacebark trees and palms.
Listen to the sounds of the numerous birds that live here and feast on the forest fruits as you wander along the shaded track: the whip bird, Wompoo fruit dove, Australian king parrot, yellow tailed black cockatoo, green catbird, rose-crowned fruit-doves, satin bowerbirds and pale-yellow robins, just to name a few.
The track name comes from the genus of the Pademelon, a small marsupial found locally, Thylogale stigmatica. Keep an eye out on the track and you may see a few hiding in the undergrowth, especially on our detour along the Pitta Circuit. A giant 300-year-old strangler fig is another highlight on this track.
