Kayak & explore the inner reef, secluded bays and nearby islands that form part of the Jurien Bay Marine Park, camping under the stars of an evening.
Jurien Bay Marine Park is unique world-wide for it’s extensive limestone reef system that runs parallel to this section of the WA coastline. The park extends from Wedge to Greenhead and approximately 5.5km off-shore, creating a huge shallow lagoon providing the perfect habitat for Australian sea lions, dolphins and juvenile fish, also extensive seagrass meadows inside the reef provide perfect shelter for marine animals such as western rock lobsters, octopus and cuttlefish.
The Marine Park, apart from being popular for a wide range of recreational activities such as diving, snorkelling, swimming, windsurfing, surfing and fishing, also boasts magnificent and ecologically important islands where rare and endangered animals habitat.
During our exciting expedition we will be paddling within the park between Jurien Bay and Green Head, a section providing perfect paddling conditions due to a series of reefs and small islands offshore that offer protection from the ocean swells. We’ll be stopping to explore the bays and coastline along our way, keeping a close eye out for dolphins and sea lions. At the end of the day we’ll be pulling up to a basic camp spot near the beach (no toilets or showers), pitching our tents, chilling out and watching the sunset over the ocean… aaah bliss!
Please ensure you read the 'No Princess Policy' prior to signing up for this trip to ensure it's suitable for you, as it explains the style of trip.
Whoo hoo ...and we’re off, let the fun begin!
We leave Perth at 12.00 noon today and travel by bus to Jurien Bay (We will have 3 pick up points available - Cockburn, Perth CBD & Currambine Train Station). Once at Jurien, we check in to the Caravan Park, set up our tents, freshen up and make our way over to the nearby Tavern for dinner ... Great way to kick off our adventure!
Meals: None included
Accommodation: Jurien Bay Caravan Park (full facilities)
After breakfast, we pack down the tents, load the kayaks with our gear, leave civilisation behind and paddle from Jurien Bay north to North Head. Paddling past the harbour, we go to Middle Head South where we practice landing and launching, afterwards continuing to Middle Head North to have lunch. Here we may swim and potentially snorkel depending upon conditions at the time.
Continuing on our journey takes us past Pumpkin Hollows, which is a series of small bays. We can stop and explore the small bays and then continue the journey to our first campsite, which is close to Sandland Island.
Once we settle into camp, grab your favourite beverage, sit on the beach and watch the sun go down over the water. After sunset, we'll join together for dinner and chill time around the campfire ... nothing better!
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Accommodation: Basic Campsite (no toilet or shower)
Cruisy start to the morning, as we don't have a long paddle today as our final destination is Sandy Cape and there's plenty of opportunity to explore the area!
After breakfast we pack down the tents, load the kayaks and paddle from North Head to Sandy Cape. We will be paddling North, passing Sandland Island keeping an eye for sea lions and dolphins. Once we reach Sandy Cape, we have lots of options to go snorkelling, swimming, take a stroll and explore the coastline, have a go at handline fishing and practice kayaking skills (rolling techniques).
Another beautiful sunset awaits, followed by campfire time!
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Accommodation: Basic Campsite (no toilet or shower)
This morning, after breakfast and loading up the kayaks, we paddle from Sandy Cape to Green Head, exploring the coastline further north. At the end of the paddle today, we pack up our gear, use the public facilities to shower down if you wish (cold water only), change out of our paddling clothes and if time permits, there may be an option to enjoy a walk along the coastal 3-ways trail at Greenhead, or simply relax on the grass area or beach.
After a group debriefing, it’s then time to head home, so we jump on the bus for the 2.5 - 3 hour journey back to Perth and as we're not driving we can kick back, celebrate, rest, relax and reflect ... Simply enjoy the ride!
